Spirit Airlines Baggage

As one of the America’s low cost carriers, Spirit Airlines is a popular commuter airline that offers airline tickets under 100 bucks, easy online booking and check in features, friendly staff and reliable on time services. Spirit Airlines is currently headquartered in Florida with more than half of its destinations in the Caribbean, Bahamas and Latin America. The airline also offers optional services for certain fees, allowing clients to choose only the extra services they need such as the Spirit Airlines baggage allowance.

The company’s modern air buses, innovations and new configuration enabled Spirit to burn less fuel compared to its competitors, making the company one of the most eco-friendly carriers in the United States. Spirit currently operates flights throughout the United States, Caribbean and Latin America.

Fees

Spirit Airlines baggage charges may vary depending on destination (domestic/international), bag dimensions, and overall weight. The first checked bag is charged $28 for domestic and $35 for international flights. If you purchase baggage credits 24 hours before your flight, there is an additional $5 fee for both charges. Spirit Club members get to enjoy affordable baggage fees; $18 for domestic flights and $23 for international destinations. The charges mentioned above are applicable only if you purchase by phone or online. If you choose to buy baggage credits at the airport, there is a flat fee of $45 for members and non members.

Weight Limit

Fees apply for all Spirit Airline passengers who wish to check in their luggage. Spirit Airlines baggage fees are considered as non refundable and can be paid online through their site or at the airport.

The maximum weight for baggage is 40 pounds or 18.1 kilograms. For luggage that goes beyond the weight limit, additional fees will apply.

For any bag weighing 41 to 50 pounds, there is a fee of $25 for every extra bag.

For baggage weighing 51 to 70 pounds, there is an additional charge of $50 per bag.

And for bags weighing 71 to 99 pounds, there is an added fee of $100 per bag.

Bags and luggage weighing more than 99 pounds are not accepted. If a bag is considered to be oversized and overweight, you will be charged for both fees. For international destinations, bags should not exceed 50 pounds from December 1 to January 10.

Oversized baggage between 62 to 79 linear inches are charged $100 per bag. For bags measuring 80 to 159 linear inches, there is a charge of $150 for every bag.

Check In

Spirit Airlines allows every passenger one carry on bag and a personal item like a briefcase or purse for free. Assistive devices such as infant diaper bags and outer garments can be brought for free.

All the carry on baggage should fit inside the overhead bin and the personal item should fit under the seat located in front. The Spirit Airlines baggage policy states that carry on baggage should have a maximum dimension of 22 inches x 18 inches x 10 inches for it to be free of charge.

Personal items, on the other hand, should have a maximum dimension of 16 inches x 14 inches x 12 inches to be included as a free baggage.

Baggage Claim

If in case your baggage was delayed, the company advise you to submit a report immediately upon arrival. As soon as you have submitted a report, you can check the status of your request with a Spirit Airlines baggage claim number.

The company also allows interim expenses for clients whose bags have been delayed. Interim expenses are only limited to reasonable personal items like toiletries and clothing as a result of the delay and should be receipted.
